"Don't Trust Scarred Survivors" is
Zoppo's 11-song, 43 minutes fourth full-length.
The album shows Zoppo breaking away from the lengthy "postrock-ism" from
their former CD/LP "Les Aumonts", going back to the more 3-4 minute "pop-song"-structure
of their first three albums.
The (notoriously) loud haunting and howling guitar sounds are more present
than ever without threatening the for Zoppo so typical melancholic melodies.
The slower, more intimate songs buzz (also because of the addition of an
organ) quietly with an almost hidden tension lying underneath them.
Discordance, melancholy and pop-feel melt on "Don't Trust Scarred Survivors"
in a concrete, direct and lively way together.
The album is available as digipack cd and gatefold lp and is a co-release
with Zoppo's own label The Drowning Man.

Two years after their
critically acclaimed second album ‘Belgian Style Pop’, Zoppo (four boys from
Amsterdam, Holland) come up with their third full-length ‘Les Aumonts’.Consisted
the previous two albums of home-taped recordings, ‘Les Aumonts’ is in fact their
first studio-recorded album.
Gave the first two albums a good insight in Zoppo’s
sources and intentions (the 80-ties and 90-ties Anglo-Saxon
guitar-poptradition), the more
layered and sophisticated sound of ‘Les Aumonts’ shows the
intensity, intimacy
and loveliness as well as the rawness, loudness and noise of the songs in full
bloom: The
no-nonsense production has made the songs deeper and moodier, more direct, pure and
transparent.
Because of the for Zoppo until now unusual coherency, 'Les
Aumonts' shows
from the first till the last second better than ever Zoppo's highly personal and very own
universe. |

The almost not existing productional
distance between music and listener makes this album sound natural, lively, direct and
intense. With these 18 new songs (+ cdrom track) Zoppo have managed to give the listener a
transparent insight into their very own universe. Welcome to zoppoland! |
