Exactly two years after the UK-release of their
critically acclaimed debut album "Elevator Tourist", Seedling
come up with their follow-up. Partly because of their extensive touring in
the UK (they crossed The Channel seven times for gigs, played the BBC
"One Live" 2001 Festival together with Ikara Colt and Hefner, in
Birmingham, played live at Maida Vale Studios for John Peel's program,
together with Melys), in Holland (o.a. the Lowlands 2001 festival) and
Germany (two tours), Seedling has moved from the slightly gloomy sound on
"Elevator Tourist" towards a more direct, fresh and uplifting
sound, based on energy, drive and dynamics. Thirteen songs, mainly 2 or
3-minute long, powerful and playful, catchy and danceable and as close as
the band can get to true pop. Although only "I'm Jill's smirking
revenge" has been a single, the album almost sounds like a singles
compilation.

January 2001 Melys were in Groningen, Netherlands as guests of the BBC-Radio 1 John Peel show to play at the Eurosonic festival. The following night they were taken out by John Peel to see some of the Dutch bands on the Noorderslag festival, where they were introduced to Seedling. At mister Peels suggestion the two bands started working together - via many emails- and this single is the outcome. It's a collaboration between Melys' own label Sylem and Transformed Dreams. Melys last album is called 'Kamikaze' and got 4/5 stars in the Melody Maker. 'I don't believe in you' is a taster for their new album. The Seedling song 'Cool baby, my hips go woo' is taken from their full-length debut cd 'Elevator Tourist'. |

The songs give insight in Seedlings
source of creativity: the moodswings. They express the idea of attraction, distraction and
repulsion, changing perceptions and moods, of being thrown from one extreme into another
(the ups and downs of the Elevator Tourist). Seedling are not influenced by one particular style of or
period in what is called popmusic since the 1960-ties. Country, (downtempo and uptempo)
dance, rock and pop are the most obvious influences that melt together in
Seedling-songs. The feel of the songs has soundtechnicaly been cherished by producer Zlaya Hadzic (a.o. Low/Dirty Three, The Ex/Tortoise, Guvner-In The Fishtank-series). Recorded on analogue tape the sound is organic and lively. The maintenance of the natural flow is enriched with tasty details and subtleties that will catch the ear after a couple of spinnings. Each song has its particular atmosphere and uncompromising own character. The (sometimes contrasting, then again melting) vocals are very convincing. The guitar sounds forceful, but playful and subtle as well. The direct and distorted violin ads sphere, tense, rhythm, melodies and sonic excitement. The bass grooves and ads original melodylines at the same time. The drums perform a driving and percussive part. Elevator Tourist has the enthusiasm, the inspiration, spontaneity and the drive a debut album should characterise, but also holds the richness of lived-through songwriting. |

Pure pop! As one music magazine once put it: 'Almost everything about Seedling is extraordinary.' Guitar music with the addition of a violin. Strong vocal harmonies and stirring live shows. |
